🏙️ Imagine Two Nightclubs
You're a fire safety inspector checking two nightclubs. Both have exactly 100 people inside.
🏢 Club A (Small)
100 people in 50 m²
Concentration: 2 people/m²
⚠️ Dangerously crowded! Can't move!
🏟️ Club B (Large)
100 people in 500 m²
Concentration: 0.2 people/m²
✅ Spacious! Room to dance!
🧪 Now Replace "People" with "Particles"
In chemistry, concentration measures how crowded particles are in a solution.
Concentration = Amount of "stuff" ÷ Volume of liquid
⚡ THE EXAMINER TRAP: Volume Units
Questions give volume in cm³ but formulas need dm³!
💡 Think: "A 1 dm³ beaker = 1000 cm³. So divide by 1000 to convert!"
📊 Two Types of Concentration
⚖️ Mass Concentration
g/dm³
"How many grams of solute per dm³ of solution?"
Example: 50 g/dm³ salt water = 50g of NaCl in every 1 dm³
🧮 Molar Concentration
mol/dm³ (M)
"How many moles of solute per dm³ of solution?"
Example: 2.0 M HCl = 2 moles of HCl in every 1 dm³
